HYALURONIC ACID

BENEFITS

Intense Hydration – Attracts and retains up to 1000× its weight in water, keeping skin plump.

Plumps Fine Lines – Smooths the skin surface by boosting moisture levels.

Strengthens Skin Barrier – Supports lipid barrier function to reduce moisture loss.

Improves Skin Elasticity – Hydrated skin becomes firmer and more elastic.

Soothes Irritation – Calms redness, inflammation, and dryness.

Enhances Product Penetration – Helps other skincare ingredients absorb better.

Non-Comedogenic – Hydrates without clogging pores; suitable even for acne-prone skin.

SIDE EFFECTS

Temporary Tightness – If applied on dry skin, it can pull moisture from deeper layers.
Mild Stickiness – Some formulations feel tacky.
In rare cases: Breakouts, especially if combined with heavy occlusives on oily skin.

CONCENTRATION

(Hyaluronic Acid is measured differently: by molecular weight & %)

Low Molecular Weight (LMW) → Deeper penetration, better plumping, but slightly higher irritation risk.
High Molecular Weight (HMW) → Surface hydration, soothing effect.
Optimal Blend → Products containing multiple molecular weights (HMW + LMW + Oligo HA).

Percentages:
0.1–0.5% → Common and effective for daily hydration.
1–2% → Often advertised, but higher % doesn’t always mean better hydration.
👉 Sweet spot: 0.2–1% with multi-molecular HA.

EFFECTIVENESS

Highly effective for:
✔ Hydration
✔ Smooth texture
✔ Barrier repair
✔ Reducing appearance of fine lines (temporary plumping)

Works exceptionally well when combined with:
Ceramides
Glycerin
Niacinamide
Occlusives (squalane, petrolatum) to lock in water
Can be used with any skincare ingredient safely.

Additional humectants (glycerin, panthenol)
